American Motors Corporation was formed in 1954 with the merger of Nash-Kelvinator and Hudson Motors. AMC became known for cars that slotted into market segments ignored by the Big Three - namely compacts such as the Rambler. By the late 1960s AMC was churning out some serious muscle with the Marlin, Javelin and ultra-short wheelbase, 2-seater AMX. Muscle car engines offered were the 343, 390 & 401 cubic inch V8s. In 1971 Roger Penske racing won the Trams Am championship with Mark Donohue behind the wheel.
We’ve put together a curated gallery of the best of AMC-Rambler print advertisements from the company’s best years - 1964 to 1975. Check out the print ads below for the Trans Am winning Javelins, the original Gremlin small car and the iconic Pacer as made famous in the movie Wayne’s World. Other models displayed here are the Rebel SST, Ambassador, Rambler American, Matador and Hornet. We’ve focused on AMC’s finest muscle cars so there’s plenty of visual candy for fans of the AMX and Javelin high performance muscle cars of the late ‘60s and early ‘70s.
